To ensure the safety and health of the shelter guests and the most vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic, California Governor Gavin Newsom launched Project RoomKey. This program focuses on social distancing as health by providing hotel rooms for individuals and couples during the time of Sheltering in Place to slow the spread of the virus and protect capacity in our healthcare system. In San Francisco, nearly every shelter has been closed, and its guests transferred to hotel rooms where they have individual bathrooms, receive three meals per day, and have access to support services. Additionally, vulnerable persons experiencing homelessness have been offered hotel rooms to ensure their safety.
In San Francisco, ECS partners with the City to provide services in eight hotels, serving 1,000 individuals.
